Karolina Sofulak - reżyserka

Absolwentka Studiów Filologiczno-Kulturoznawczych Europy Zachodniej na Uniwersytecie Warszawskim oraz międzywydziałowego kierunku reżyseria opery i teatru muzycznego na PWST im. Ludwika Solskiego i Akademii Muzycznej w Krakowie.

Jako asystent reżysera współpracowała z Mariuszem Trelińskim, Davidem Aldenem, Christopherem Aldenem, Keithem Warnerem, Phyllida Lloyd oraz Krzysztofem Warlikowskim, prowadziła także próby wznowień spektakli w następujących teatrach: Teatr Wielki – Opera Narodowa w Warszawie, Opera North, Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe, the Grange Park Opera, Oper Chemnitz, Teatro Regio di Torino, Opéra National de Bordeaux, Opéra de Dijon, Oper Wuppertal, the English National Opera and the Royal Opera House. Reżyserowała dla the Brighton Early Music Festival (Jean Philippe Rameau, Pygmalion) i dla the London Festival of Baroque Music (Claudio Monteverdi, Combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda). W 2017 przygotowała entuzjastycznie przyjętą Rycerskość wieśniczą Mascagniego dla Opera North. W 2018 roku została laureatką nagrody European Opera Directing Prize competition, nagrodzona koncepcja reżyserska Manon Lescaut zostanie zaprezentowana na scenie Opera Holland Park w czerwcu 2019 roku.

Karolina Sofulak studied Western European culture and languages at the University of Warsaw, as well as opera and music theatre directing at the Ludwik Solski Academy for the Dramatic Arts in Kraków. As an associate and revival director, she has worked with such directors as Mariusz Treliński, David Alden, Christopher Alden, Keith Warner, Phyllida Lloyd and Krzysztof Warlikowski in the following opera houses: Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera, Opera North, Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe, the Grange Park Opera, Oper Chemnitz, Teatro Regio di Torino, Opéra National de Bordeaux, Opéra de Dijon, Oper Wuppertal, the English National Opera and the Royal Opera House.

She has created productions for the Brighton Early Music Festival (Rameau's Pygmalion) and the London Festival of Baroque Music (Monteverdi's Combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda). In 2017 she directed Mascagni's Cavalleria Rusticana for Opera North as part of the critically acclaimed Little Greats season. She is the winner of the 2018 European Opera Directing Prize competition, as a result of which she will direct her winning concept of Manon Lescaut for Opera Holland Park in June 2019.
